I am honored, humbled and excited about being elected as the new president of MAMA. The founder and former president, Jeff Cummings, has done an exceptional job with getting things done and growing this association. That will definitely be a hard act to follow! I’d like to extend my appreciation to him for all of his dedication, hard work and vision for this organization. I’m sure I speak for many people when I say that. I will do my best to continue to fulfill the mission we established when we began this journey.
Our members have a wide range of ages/abilities. We have a Grammy award winner on board, as well as a musician who still performs with the fabulous Temptations and the Four Tops. Those musicians and many others have helped with our music education workshops (which we always appreciate!). We also have members who have or are building new businesses in music industry, all of which benefit our community. We have members who are currently producing CDs of their original music, those who are having their music played on the radio, and those who are doing well with shows/performances in this area and beyond. We have many members who often donate their talents to benefits for people and causes important in our community.
The supporters of MAMA have common goals. We work to promote the talented musicians in our area and the venues that support them, and to provide music education opportunities for the area’s children of all ages. We feel that music education, as well as being positive role models and mentors to people of all ages in our community, is important. We want to bring together the musicians of today and tomorrow.
Our events are family friendly and in smoke free environments whenever possible. We offer periodic MAMA Jams to provide a place for musicians to perform/network/learn from each other, which are free and open to the public. We also have special events/performance opportunities, and we offer music education workshops during the year. We donate to other local charities such as the disabled vets, the Boys and Girls Club, and the local Food Bank, to name a few.
There are many ways to participate with MAMA and help in your own community!
Our musicians and volunteers make a positive difference in our community! I want to ensure the community realizes their contributions. I know the musicians don’t do it for the recognition, but I feel they deserve it, and that they can be positive role models for everyone in the community.
