MAMA 2020 has been cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic concerns.

Hello all my wonderful music loving friends.  I hope all is well with everyone.

The board has been continuing to discuss the MAMA Over Montgomery 2020 event keeping an eye out on the pandemic. We’ve worked hard and spent many many hours putting it all together.  We were hoping the pandemic would clear up & everyone would be ready to get out and celebrate by September.

Unfortunately, we don’t feel that this is the case, and we’ve decided to cancel the event.

Everything was ready for the event;  date, venue, event lay-out and set-up, volunteers, the people who would be overseeing different areas, production, support from the CCC, bars & food worked out, band load in schedule, etc., and we already had several submissions from bands.  Unfortunately, we’ve had to call and cancel with everyone involved.  They completely understand and agree with the decision.  We are all disappointed though!  However, each person or business we were going to use said they would be glad to look at next year.

So, we DO hope to be able to have this event next year!  The silver lining is that most of the work for it is pretty much already done!  We have left the MAMA 2020 content below so you can see what were prepared to do and will be bringing to Montgomery next year.

We appreciate the enthusiasm, encouragement and support we’ve received.  We appreciate the support of Leslie Bailey and the Capital City Club, from donors, from media outlets and music lovers who were excited about the event. We greatly appreciate Mark Dempsey, who had already sponsored the VIP section.

Our association continues to grow. We are excited about the things we have planned for the musicians and music community in the future! Stay tuned!

The Montgomery Area Musicians Association is happy to announce they will be holding a 2020 Music Showcase featuring some of the talented musicians in the River Region. MAMA Over Montgomery will once again be held at the top of the RSA tower on the terraces with stunning views of the city, in conjunction with the Capital City Club. You do not have to be a member to attend. This will be a family friendly event.

Four of the area’s top bands will be performing an hour each during the afternoon and evening of Sunday, September 13. Doors will open at 2:00 with the first band beginning at 2:30 and will end around 7:30, perfect timing to watch the sun go down from the “sunset terrace” during the last band! They will have two cash bars, silent auction items, a 50/50, door prizes, and band merchandise available.

Tickets will be available at beginning August 1 @ www.montgomerymusicians.org. Ticket prices will be $20 in advance via the website and $25 at the door. Kids 12 and under will be free. Military and law enforcement personnel will get in for $10 with ID shown at the event. Event sponsors will be mailed wristbands to enter without standing in line.

Mark your calendars for September 13 and help us spread the word! This will be the most unique music event of the year!

***100% of the funds will be donated back to MAMA, a local all volunteer non-profit organization, for the enrichment our own community through music!

Big thanks to Mark Russell from Dempsey & Russell for sponsoring the VIP area!

                             OPEN LETTER TO LOCAL BANDS

MAMA is very excited to announce that we will be having a MAMA Over Montgomery 2020 at the Capitol City Club!  They are under new management which wants to support our organization and our mission! Leslie Bailey, the new Events Director, has procured the best possible contract with the management for us, which we greatly appreciate.

This will be a Showcase of the Bands which will set the stage for future showcases.  This aligns with our vision statement to promote the advancement of our musicians; ensuring that community members, music venues, event planners and performance venues are made aware of the talented musicians in the River Region.

This will be an afternoon/evening event and will take place on Sunday, September 13.  We will be showcasing 4 bands which will perform for one hour with 15 minutes between bands.  Each band will be paid $600.00.  Doors will open at 2:00 & the first band will begin at 2:30. It will be over around 7:30.

Anderson Productions will already have everything set up before the bands arrive, so the band members will only have to “plug & play”.  We will have people assigned to coordinate and assist the bands, and the production team, with load in/load out.  We’re hoping for 2 additional people to help each band and someone assigned to the loading dock area.  If you or someone you know can help, please contact us or James Rip Christie.  He will be at the top to ensure load in & load outs run smoothly, to help the bands as needed, and to handle the generators on each stage.  He has experience in this area and we appreciate him volunteering to coordinate everyone.  If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer to supervise the loading dock area during load in/load out please contact us.   There will be 2 locked rooms in which the alternate bands can house their equipment safely when not in use.

We are asking for audio submissions from all bands interested in participating.   We established a selection committee at the last meeting to choose the bands.  They will listen to each submission, without knowledge to whom they are listening.  The committee is made up of volunteers including at least one musician, one music lover and one person who has previously been on the committee.  We may have a visiting musician from Birmingham on the committee this year as well.  People on the committee are not allowed to submit their band.

We would like to have different genres represented, so when submitting, please indicate a unique genre to describe your band.  Don’t just submit under “Rock Band” for example.  We are asking for all submissions be turned in by June 13 to nnfranklyn@gmail.com.  The selection committee will try to meet the following week, so please don’t be late with submissions!  We will request that the bands join MAMA if they are not already members.

If you have further questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to contact us!  Please help us spread the work about this event by announcing it at your gigs and creating an event of your FB page!   If you know of a business who would like to be a sponsor, there are various levels of sponsorship available.  Let us know and we can get a sponsorship packet to them.  If you, or someone you know, want to contribute by donating item(s) for the silent auction let us know.  With your help, we’re looking forward to the best MAMA Over Montgomery event yet!
